I bought winter tires, thinking I'd need them the most when I went to Vancouver Island

Nope. I mean it is cold, but the tires have definitely been more necessary at home

Looks like it’ll be a clear and sunny christmas over here

Do you live somewhere where it doesn’t snow or get cold?

It could have been bad. If you usually run summers, the winters are necessary (and they do stop better on snow, ice, and even in general on cold dry ground).

The downside is wear. Winter tires wear fast.

Oh for sure, I’m really glad I got them. I just thought it was funny that it’s clear where it usually snows, and snowy where it’s usually clear

OMG that is seriously my favorite part of North America (Puget Sound/San Juan Islands — haven’t been to V.I. yet but from your pic it has the same-ish look)

Best wishes for a great trip and a great time

Send pics!

That is kind of funny. Although I would never bet on cold weather on Vancouver Island. Victoria is notorious for having the best weather in the country.

Not Victoria though, I’m farther up island, as far as I know they usually get snow here

I love it in Vancouver Island, enough that I almost want to move here. Tofino and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I’m in the North Cowichan right now, here’s a couple more from today.

The bus isn’t scenery, but was a nice surprise to see in the garage

Then the question is whether you’re on the ocean side or the Strait of Georgia side, as well as how high you are. The strait side is far milder than the ocean side.

Snow really isn’t constant/consistent anywhere on the island that isn’t in the mountains (that is, the area where most live is generally low and near the water).

Based on the picture, I suspect you’re low and on the strait side. Across the water from the central/southern side of the island is an area called “The Sunshine Coast”, which is one of the mildest regions in the country.
